Five candidates free, then one plan with every charge in view.
We clear the candidates you bring us and keep their files current. You pay a monthly plan for the clearing, a small monthly charge for each file we look after, and nothing else unless you ask for it.
Five candidates free in your first month. We clear them on us, then it’s £35 each. The only charge on the five is the £68 Enhanced DBS with children’s barred list, taken from your card the day you add each one, or paid by the candidate before we apply if you choose. Cancel in that month for nothing.

An example, not a quote. Any Enhanced DBS with children’s barred list you pay for is £68 on its own line.

A compliance officer on £32,500 costs £3,117.73 a month with employer’s National Insurance and pension, and covers roughly twenty new files a month once renewals are counted. Below fifteen a month an agency doesn’t hire: its consultants do it between calls, at £21.60 an hour of their time.

Where the salary comes from: a compliance officer in an education agency is paid around £30,000 to £35,000. We've used £32,500, then added employer's National Insurance at 15% above £5,000 and the 3% auto-enrolment pension. That's before a desk, software, holiday cover or the cost of recruiting. A consultant's pay is Glassdoor's September 2026 average for education recruitment consultants, about £31,000 a year, and the hour is that with the same on-costs. Put your own figures in.
The Enhanced DBS with children's barred list application is charged per application and is the same fee whoever runs the check, as are the other statutory fees. Staffroom24 doesn't decide who you book: the employment decision, and the statutory excuse as employer, stay with your agency.
One candidate pays for their first month by their second day.
Take a candidate working 3 days a week at a £36 daily margin: 12 days and £432.00 of margin in a four-week month. Clearing them is £35 once, and keeping them current £9.99 a month until you stop keeping their file up to date.
Month two onwards, with only the £9.99 to pay: £422.01. Your margins and days will be different, so bring your numbers and we’ll work it through.
The questions everyone asks.
What happens after the free month?
Your plan starts the day it ends, and that day becomes your billing date: £350 for ten clearances, £35 for each one after, and £9.99 a month for every file we keep current, your free five included if they're still on your register.
Is the plan a minimum?
Yes, once your free month is over. Every billing period opens with ten clearances at £350, so a month where you add nobody still costs £350: a team held ready to clear your candidates costs the same in a quiet month. There's no setup fee and no account fee, and you can leave with 30 days' notice.
When exactly is the £35 taken?
For the first ten candidates in a billing period it isn't: they come out of the ten you bought, and their line reads nought with the reason beside it. From the eleventh it comes off your card the day you add them, or the day you approve somebody who joined through your own link. You're never charged twice for the same person, even when they move schools.
How long does a clearance take?
That depends mostly on the Disclosure and Barring Service, which nobody can hurry. We aim to have everything we need from the candidate within a week, two weeks at most, and we apply for their Enhanced DBS with children's barred list the same day it can go in. GOV.UK says an enhanced check usually takes around 14 days, and some take up to eight weeks when police forces need to look. We record the result the day it arrives, your file is cleared once every other check is done, and you can see what's in hand on the file at any point without asking.
What happens with the Disclosure and Barring Service fee?
It's £68 an application, and that's everything: the statutory fee, the application and the chasing until it lands. It's on its own line, and you choose for each candidate whether it comes off your card or they pay it in their own pages. The £68 is refunded in full to whoever paid it if the application is never submitted, including where their certificate is on the Update Service and we check that instead. Other statutory fees are charged at cost.
What if a candidate stops replying?
Where a candidate stops responding, we keep chasing them on dated emails and calls. Once 30 days have passed since their last response and at least 6 chases, 2 of them calls, are on the chase log, we email them that we will close their file in 7 days unless they reply. If they do not, the file closes as Closed: no response and we tell you. They can reopen it within 90 days with no new clearance charge. The £35 clearance is not refunded, because the work was done.
Does a cleared file mean they will be placed?
No. A cleared file is a dated record of the checks we completed, for you to decide on. Whether and where a candidate works is your decision, so the £35 is for the clearing work and is not refunded if a candidate is never placed. If we fail to do the work with reasonable care and skill, we put it right or credit or refund the charge.
Do you find candidates for me?
No. You bring your own candidates and we clear them. We hold no pool of our own. Your candidates stay yours: we never offer them to another agency, and we never tell another agency who is on your books.
Do you see every candidate?
Yes. Every candidate is seen by us on a ten-minute ID interview on video, where they hold their identification up to the camera. It's included in the £35 and costs nothing extra. It is an identity check, not a registration interview: you hold your own registration interview with each candidate and record it on their record.
What if a reference never comes back?
A person here follows each referee up, and after a second ask that usually means the phone. However a reference arrives it goes on the file with the date, and if a referee won't give one we tell you and try another route.
Do you cover Wales and Scotland?
Not yet. We cover England only. Scotland uses the Protecting Vulnerable Groups scheme instead of the DBS, and Wales has its own guidance. If you book across borders, tell us and we'll explain what we cover.
What happens to our candidates' data?
You're the data controller and we're your processor, so we handle it only on your instructions. Our data processing terms name every service that handles it and where, including the few in the United States, and how that data is protected. A file is kept while the candidate is registered with you and for six years after their last booking or their registration ending, whichever is later. Certificate details and Right to Work copies are held for the shorter periods the law sets. If a candidate asks us to delete their data, we tell you and act on your instruction.
Can we leave and take our files?
Yes. Leaving takes 30 days' notice, and one last payment is taken in that time, your monthly plan and each file we keep up to date together: on your billing date if it falls inside the 30 days, or on the last day of your notice if it does not. There's no exit fee. Charges already taken stay taken, a candidate whose file you stop keeping up to date stops costing anything from your next billing date, you keep copies of the files we've built for you, and we return or delete the candidate data we hold, as you tell us.
